What is CHIP?
COMMUNITY HOUSING INITIATIVE PERTH
The goal of CHIP is to gather members of the Perth community who will work together to create new units of safe, affordable, and secure housing for marginalized residents and provide support for these neighbours in their new homes.
What are we doing?
CREATING AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The immediate plan is to construct a multi-unit building of affordable housing to be erected on lot within Perth town limits.
CHIP has partnered with Carebridge Community Support (an affordable housing provider in Lanark County) and the Saumure Group to build a 15-unit, two-story affordable housing structure in the heart of Perth at 63 Halton Street. The building will consist of 11 one-bedroom units and 4 two-bedroom units. CHIP will act as advisors during and after completion of the project and provide community support for future tenants.
Why are we doing it?
THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A TIME OF GREATER NEED FOR SAFE, SECURE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING
There are over 600 needy applicants on the waiting list for ‘Rent Geared to Income’ and affordable housing in Lanark County. Over 300 of these individuals and families are desperately looking to find housing within their means in the town of Perth alone. We believe the people of Perth and our elected officials can come together to address this pressing need.
